Red – Northern Cardinal
Red, the main protagonist in The Angry Birds Movie, is a red bird who struggles with anger issues and often feels like an outcast among the other birds on Bird Island. Known for his grumpy and sarcastic personality, Red initially prefers to keep to himself but eventually takes on a leadership role to protect his fellow birds from the Piggies.

In real life, Northern Cardinals, which Red is inspired by, are gorgeous birds with bright red plumage in males and more muted tones in females. Unlike the often irritable Red in the movie, actual Northern Cardinals are known for their melodious songs and are generally non-aggressive. They are territorial during the breeding season but are otherwise social and beloved across North America.
Jay, Jake, and Jim – Eastern/Mountain Bluebirds
Jay, Jake, and Jim, also known as “The Blues” in The Angry Birds Movie, are a trio of small, mischievous blue birds who often cause playful chaos wherever they go. These three brothers are inseparable and love to engage in pranks and tricks. Their high energy and sense of fun often lead to trouble, but their antics are always in good fun.

Eastern Bluebird
They are said to be Eastern Bluebirds, but their appearance closely resembles Mountain Bluebirds.
In real life, Mountain Bluebirds are known for their brilliant sky-blue plumage, especially in males. They inhabit open areas across the western United States and Canada, where they are admired for their graceful flight and melodious songs.

Mountain Bluebird. It’s up to you to decide which one of them looks closer to the characters.
These birds are skilled fliers, often hovering mid-air to catch insects, and tend to be solitary, especially during the breeding season, displaying a more reserved and less social demeanor than their on-screen counterparts.
Chuck – Atlantic Canary
Chuck, one of the main characters in The Angry Birds Movie, is a fast-talking, hyperactive yellow bird known for his incredible speed. Always full of energy, Chuck is constantly on the move and often acts impulsively, which leads to humorous and chaotic situations.
In real life, Atlantic Canaries, which Chuck resembles, are small yellow birds native to the Canary Islands. Unlike the high-energy and chaotic Chuck, Atlantic Canaries are not known for speed but for their melodious songs.
These birds are popular as pets due to their cheerful songs and vibrant yellow plumage. In the wild, they are social and often seen in flocks, foraging for seeds and insects.
Bomb – Common Loon
Bomb, the last of the main trio, is a large, black bird with the unique ability to explode when he gets too excited, nervous, or upset. Despite his explosive power, Bomb is gentle, friendly, and often self-conscious about his uncontrollable ability. While Bomb’s appearance most closely resembles that of the Greater Antillean Bullfinch or the Myna Bird, he is supposed to be a Common Loon.

In real life, Common Loons are fairly unique-looking waterbirds known for their distinctive black-and-white plumage and haunting calls that echo across northern lakes. Unlike Bomb’s explosive nature, Common Loons are graceful and solitary, often found gliding on water or diving to catch fish.
Matilda – Chicken
Matilda is a white bird who runs the anger management class attended by Red, Chuck, and Bomb. Known for her calm and nurturing demeanor, Matilda strives to maintain peace and harmony among the birds on Bird Island. However, despite her serene exterior, she has moments where her own frustrations come to the surface, revealing that she isn’t as composed as she seems.

In real life, chickens are domesticated birds widely known for their social nature and intelligence. They are naturally curious, active, and capable of forming strong bonds within their flock. Mother chickens, in particular, are known for their protective instincts, vigilantly caring for and defending their chicks.
Hal – Emerald Toucanet
Hal is a green bird with a distinctive orange boomerang-shaped bill, reflecting his ability to boomerang back after being launched. He is good-natured and prefers to stay out of conflict.
Hal resembles Emerald Toucanets which are vibrant green birds native to Central and South America. Their plumage is accented by a colorful bill with a yellow upper and black lower mandible. Emerald Toucanets are social and often found in small flocks, actively moving through the forest canopy in search of fruit, which makes up the majority of their diet.
Terence – Cardinal
Terence is a large, silent, and intimidating bird who communicates primarily through deep grunts and growls. Despite his menacing appearance and quiet nature, Terence is a loyal and protective member of the bird community.

Terence is the same species as Red but differs significantly in temperament and appearance. While Red is small, fiery, and outspoken, Terence is enormous, stoic, and rarely expresses emotion outwardly. In real life, Northern Cardinals are known for their vibrant red plumage, particularly in males, and their melodic songs.
Unlike the brooding Terence, actual Northern Cardinals are social, unless it’s the breeding season, and are often seen singing from treetops to mark their territory or attract mates, showcasing a more lively and vocal personality.
Bubbles – Spot-breasted Oriole
Bubbles is a cheerful, orange bird known for his playful and excitable nature. He has the unique ability to inflate to several times his normal size, which he uses to great effect in battles against the Piggies. Bubbles is wild, reckless, always enthusiastic, and ready for fun, bringing a lighthearted and joyful energy to the group.
He is modeled after the Spot-breasted Oriole, a real-life bird native to Central America. Like Bubbles, Spot-breasted Orioles are brightly colored with striking orange and black plumage. They are often seen in pairs or small groups, foraging for insects and fruit, displaying a calm and methodical behavior.
Stella – Galah
Stella is a bright pink bird known for her energetic, bubbly, and optimistic personality. She possesses the ability to create bubbles that can trap objects or enemies, but this ability is not shown in the movie.
Stella is inspired by the Galah, a real-life cockatoo species native to Australia. Like Stella, Galahs are known for their striking pink plumage but they also have a considerable amount of gray. They are highly social and intelligent birds. Both share a playful and curious nature, often engaging in fun activities.
Silver – Peale’s Falcon
Silver, introduced in The Angry Birds Movie 2, is a smart and inventive bird with a keen mind for engineering and problem-solving. She is Chuck’s sister and becomes an essential part of the team as they work to stop a new threat. Her intelligence, quick thinking, and determination make her a standout character.

Since Peale’s Falcons are one subspecies of Peregrine Falcons, they are not too different from them.
Silver is inspired by the Peale’s Falcon, a subspecies of the Peregrine Falcon. Like Silver, Peale’s Falcons are known for their speed and sharp hunting skills. Both are highly intelligent and capable of quick, agile maneuvers. Unlike Silver’s sociable nature, Peale’s Falcons are solitary hunters, embodying a more independent and fierce persona.
Poppy – Lutino Cockatiel
Poppy, a background character in The Angry Birds Movie, is a soft yellow bird with pink highlights who makes a brief appearance. She is a close friend of Stella and is often seen as joyful and energetic. Although she has little screen time, Poppy’s lively spirit shines through, especially during the welcome celebration for the pigs, where she is seen performing on stage.
Poppy resembles a Lutino Cockatiel, a popular pet bird known for its soft yellow plumage and charming personality. Like Poppy, Lutino Cockatiels are social, playful, and love to engage with others. They are known for their affectionate nature and enjoy singing and mimicking sounds, similar to Poppy’s performance on stage.
Willow – Western Crowned Pigeon
Willow is a quirky, artistic bird known for her unique sense of style and creativity. In the movies, she is a background character with very little screen time and no dialogue. However, her distinctive blue appearance with long, flowing head feathers and habit of wearing a hat make it easy to spot and remember her.
Willow is inspired by the Western Crowned Pigeon, a striking bird with blue-gray plumage and an elaborate crest of lacy feathers on its head. Like Willow, these pigeons are visually stunning and stand out due to their impressive appearance. They are social birds and are often found in pairs or small groups in their native habitats of New Guinea.
Judge Peckinpah – Great Grey Owl
Judge Peckinpah is the judge of Bird Island. He is a small, gray bird who stands on the shoulders of Cyrus to hide his real height. Despite his title, Judge Peckinpah is extremely arrogant and unjust, acting like he owns the place.

He resembles a Great Gray Owl, a majestic bird known for its large size and striking appearance with gray plumage and piercing yellow eyes.
Unlike the somewhat ineffectual Judge Peckinpah, Great Gray Owls are powerful and efficient hunters, known for their quiet, commanding presence in the wild. They are stealthy, patient, and skilled.
Cyrus – Gray-cheeked Thrush
Cyrus is a minor supporting character in the movie with light gray feathers and tan spots on the belly. He serves as a perch for Judge Peckinpah, often tucked under the judge’s robes. Cyrus is known for his terrible allergies, constantly sneezing throughout the movie, which adds a comedic element to his character.

He is modeled after the Gray-cheeked Thrush; a bird with subtle gray plumage and spotted belly. Unlike Cyrus, who is characterized by his clumsiness and allergies, Gray-cheeked Thrushes are agile, skilled flyers, known for their long migrations between North and South America. They also sing beautiful melodic songs.
Mime – Zebra Finch
Mime is a background character with a distinctive black-and-white color scheme. As his name suggests, Mime is mostly silent, communicating entirely through gestures and expressions, often mimicking other characters or dialogue.
Mime is modeled after the Zebra Finch, a small, social bird native to Australia. However, while the movie character appears only in black and white with reddish spots on the cheek, then real-life Zebra Finches are much more vibrant, featuring an orange cheek patch and chestnut flanks with white spots.
These birds are lively and vocal, known for their cheerful songs and social behavior, often seen in flocks. Unlike Mime’s silent and understated presence, Zebra Finches are active and communicative, bringing color and sound to their natural environments.
Mighty Eagle – Bald Eagle
Mighty Eagle, a major supporting character in the movie, is a legendary figure on Bird Island, known for his past heroics. Once revered as a great protector, he has since become lazy and out of shape, living in seclusion on top of a mountain. Despite his faded glory, he eventually returns to action, using his strength and experience to help the other birds in their fight.

Mighty Eagle is inspired by the Bald Eagle, a powerful and iconic bird of prey known for its majestic appearance and symbolic representation of freedom in the United States.
While Mighty Eagle starts off as a comical and somewhat washed-up character, real-life Bald Eagles are known for their strength, sharp vision, and impressive hunting skills. Unlike Mighty Eagle’s fall from grace, Bald Eagles remain top predators in their natural habitats, embodying power and resilience.
