The AOU serves as the official governing body for ornithology in the United States. The AOU makes the determination of common and scientific bird names, among its other responsibilities.
BioOne
Provides indexes, abstracts and complete articles from many scientific journals, including several of the major ornithological journals. Access to complete articles is only available through institutions but many of the abstracts provide significant information.

The site is a service of the Ornithological Council, a public information organization established and supported by eleven North American professional ornithological societies. OWL "Ornithological Worldwide Literature "
OWL provides citations and abstracts from the worldwide scientific literature that pertain to the science of ornithology. Coverage includes literature not abstracted by commercial databases such as Zoological Record. OWL is a joint effort between the American Ornithologists' Union and the British Ornithologists' Union and Birds Australia. The database is hosted by the Edward Grey Institute of Field Ornithology, based in the Zoology Department of Oxford University, UK
